The Dance of Masculine and Feminine.

Regardless of gender, all people carry both masculine and feminine energies. Both of these energies carry endless value. Having an understanding of these energies, and how they exhibit themselves through our behavior in day to day life is important. Our life circumstances, and environment can have a big impact on which of these energies is most active at any given point in time.

The Western lifestyle most of us are living, requires us to be in our masculine energy a lot of the time. The masculine is all about taking action. It moves with purpose, is assertive, and logical. Being in this state is essential, especially in a working environment, as it allows for us to take charge, be productive, and achieve our goals. For the masculine to function and flourish it needs to feel admired, free and needed. The masculine hates being controlled or criticised.

The feminine, on the other hand, is always feeling. It is centered in being, as opposed to doing. It flows freely, planlessly. It is the space where creativity and intuition reside. It is our capacity to simply be, without an end goal or purpose. For the feminine energy to feel safe, it needs to feel seen and protected. The feminine energy needs to know that it is being felt and understood, and needs attention.

How do these energies affect our relationships?

A lot of us get stuck in our masculine, as we do not have the awareness or tools to actively switch between these energies outside of our work environment. This can cause imbalances within ourselves and tension in our relationships.

Having an internal imbalance of these energies can result in us falling into codependent relationships. If we are lacking an energy internally, we will outsource this energy. Hence we will look for partners who carry this energy, and will therefore feel reliant on them to complete us in a way.

Tension in a relationship can also arise if both partners are in the same energy. If, for example, both partners are in their masculine it can cause friction and disconnection. Passion and flow comes from the dance of opposing energies, the polarity, whereas having things in common will foster the longevity of the relationships.

This does not mean that being in the same energy as your partner at times is bad. It simply means you need to cultivate a heightened awareness of your own state of being and become familiar with your ability to dance with these energies, both in yourself and your relationships. Clearly communicating your desires, fears and boundaries is essential in cultivating deep intimacy and understanding.

Be creative – Paint, draw, sing, create in whatever way makes you feel good

Practice the Art of Doing Nothing – Simply be

Surrender – Allow yourself the space to be indecisive. Ask for help / direction from others.

Bring more pleasure into your life – Self pleasure, nourishing food, music, art, walks in nature, massages etc.

Spend more time with women – Immersing yourself in feminine energy will nourish and allow you to access your own

Tools to Embody Your Masculine:

Meditation

Activities that drop you deeper into the present moment (e.g. deep belly breathing)

Martial Arts or physical activities that is structured in a planned, logical manner

Having a sense of purpose / working towards an end goal

Reflecting or journaling on your experiences with these energies can be extremely beneficial for you to gain insights on your patterning. Below are some journaling prompts you can play with to aid you in your reflective process.

Journaling Prompts:

- When during the day was I in my masculine / feminine?

- How did being in that energy serve me in this situation?

- How does it feel in my body?

- How would being in the opposite energy change the situation?

- What energy would have served me the most in achieving my outcome / being present / being authentic? How could I have accessed this?

As we move into a new year, a lot of us will feel pressure to achieve and be proactive. I invite you to slow down a little. Nourish your feminine. Give yourself the space to just be. Balance is essential, and cultivating this within yourself in the first step in achieving balance in the rest of your life. If you feel unmotivated or indecisive, use some of the tools above to harness the power of the masculine. Kick start your productivity by stepping in this “doing” energy. Start dancing with both, and observe how you feel.

In the Sacred Union online journey, we dive much deeper into the concept of the masculine and feminine, through the exploration of the different polarities that these energies can hold within themselves. If you are interested in exploring further, click here to find out more.

I hope you enjoy playing with these energies! Be curious. I’d love to hear if you try any of these practices, and what your experience were, so do pop me an email if there’s anything you’d like to share!
